Greetings once again readers, I know it’s been far too long. I’ve recovered from the figurative crash of things and now we continue. Let’s see Applejack and Truth.
Applejack opens noting that unlike the last time the Six confronted and defeated a threat to Equestria; this time the resolution happened in the middle of town, in full view of the populace. She notes that there is a general sense that most everyone is attempting to move past their pain resulting in a growing distance between all. She confidently vows that never turning from the truth is the course she must take from her breaking. Twilight delivers a royal summons for Applejack and Applebloom to Canterlot where Royal sisters give Applejack an opportunity to test her understanding and grow. Celestia explains that though Discord used a manufactured truth to break her, the basis was valid; only by fully experiencing how harsh the truth can be can the full flowering of her Element and self come about. The realities she then experiences start with others in Ponyville and beyond affected by Discord so recently, moves onto other possibilities for her family and friends, and finally two version of herself choosing to stay in Manehatten with the Oranges. Shaken by AJ’s unexpected jamming of gears to prolong the exposure while pulling the closing lever, Celestia demands explanation. With a simple, "Had ta show dem Truth fellah ah warn't scared o' none of 'em.", Applejack asks the sisters for confirmation that what she experienced was Truth. With their confirmation, she accepts the unfairness of reality allowing ponies to make their choices. Applejack returns home and begins to engage and address the individuals she shared experience from the truth with encouragement. We leave with AJ informing Twilight of Trixie languishing in Hoofington.
This chapter certainly opens the world up with the introduction of alternate branches of reality. With glimpses into the experiences of ponies during the Day of Discord, scenes from what we will soon come to call Dark World, and threads from stories we may never have in full; we now know that no choice is absolute (eg. Applejack leaving Manehatten). Looking back upon this dive into the possibilities of reality after Origins and the first arc of Dark World the seeds of the example of Manehatten, Twi and Trixie being raised as sisters, an aged Celestia in front of ancient sun, and Twilight leading a multi-species group of Elements, while not being the first keys to coming events, are the first I cast back to. Up next, the chapter that changed Pinkie Pie for me forever. Baring uncooperative technology I will be back in the swing of posting.
